Purnakala is happy to bring traditional Indian Painting workshops to the Seattle community!
Narrative Scroll Paintings of India
This module explores India’s rich traditions of narrative scroll painting, where stories are composed through sequential imagery, rhythmic pattern, and symbolic visual language. Participants will create hand-painted cloth panels while learning how different textile supports can be prepared and adapted into finished artworks using contemporary materials.
May Workshop: Assamese Scroll Painting
Inspired by the storytelling traditions of Assam, this workshop explores scroll painting as a visual narrative form. You will learn to compose flowing scenes, work with natural motifs, and build a sequential story, reflecting the rhythm and cultural depth of Assamese folk art.
Create and take home a beautiful 12 × 12 inch painting on a silk panel, designed to add a striking pop of color to your wall.

Who can attend?
Adults of all skill levels are welcome. Come create in a friendly community setting. No drawing or painting background required. Step-by-step instructions will be provided.
Fee: $126
Fee includes all materials for in-class use. It also includes the new sales tax levied by WA state since Oct 2025 for live presentations.

Limited to 10 spots! Registration must be completed online in advance. Registrations close on Thursday, April 30th at 6PM PST
